My Neglected Blog

by la_spice @ 2008-09-07 - 14:08:08

Whilst I've been busy posting here, on "The Blogship Lollipop" and the "Photography Group Blog" I've neglected my poetry blog. So yesterday I decided to dust off the cobwebs and re-decorate it and hopefully I'll get some inspiration for some new poems.

Meanwhile I've re-posted a couple of my favourites so why don't you pop over there and take a little look?

Whilst you're there, if you want to read more of my poems just click on the title "tags" in the right hand column. There are now 179 poems so you should find at least one to your taste - if not just let me know.

Have a lovely Sunday afternoon everyone

Truly Madly Disappointed!

by la_spice @ 2008-09-07 - 07:34:55

Sorry for the miserable title but I finally managed to watch "that film" last night and I didn't need a hanky. In fact I didn't really enjoy it after all that. I don't think I'd hyped myself up but maybe I had?

There you go - another of life's disappointments :**:

On the brighter note (despite the gloomy weather) today we begin rehearsals for "Cinderella" oh yes we do!!! So a busy day ahead.

Where do the days go?

by la_spice @ 2008-09-04 - 09:22:26

How often do we hear this expression? Yes, today may well turn into a memorable one for someone somewhere but what about those missing days?

What missing days? you might ask!

Did you know:

Nothing whatsoever happened in British history between 3rd and 13th September 1752

In 1752 Britain changed from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. By doing so September 3rd automatically became 14th September – as a result nothing whatsoever happened in British history between 3rd and 13th September 1752.

So now you know!

We woz robbed!

Look Juzzzy!

Cold Callers?

by la_spice @ 2008-08-31 - 08:26:33

Au contraire!

Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call "hello .... we're in your area can we drop in?" This from two BCUK bloggers. So an hour or so later this arrived in my drive:

DSC01350

Out of it stepped Sue (Pastel) and Eddie (campingcariste/the-gardener/badblogger/campingcar) I know it sounds like an invasion but there were only two of them (Eddie is a man of many parts).

Et voila! here they are - not Eddie's parts!!!

DSC01349

We spent a lovely afternoon chatting before Sue and Eddie took a stroll round my village. Then in the evening we had a few drinks before the "happy wanderers" returned to their home on wheels. Just as they were going the sky light up and a noisy storm commenced. I hope they managed to sleep - I haven't seen or heard them this morning.

All in all it was a lovely day - and great to put faces to names.

Well I'll be blogged!!!

by la_spice @ 2008-08-30 - 13:07:51

I'm having a mini blog meet!

Where: Chez Moi!
When: This afternoon!

How exciting is that?

When did I find out about it? - half an hour ago - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Must fly - all the news later............*shrieks*!!

Well I'll be Shreddied!!!!

by la_spice @ 2008-08-29 - 20:13:18

The saga continues......

Many of my blogfriends know of my unsatiable craving for these:

SHREDDIES :)

And the many disappointments when a lovely friend brought me these:

shredded wheat :(

Followed by these:bitesize shredded

And just when I thought he knew exactly what I wanted he brought these:

coco

I should cocoa!!!! Am I really asking too much?

Go one - tell me I'm ungrateful, unreasonable and the rest but I only asked for Shreddies  Common or garden ones  - not frosted, not chocolatey, not fruity  or any other new fangled flavouring!

It's a bad time

by la_spice @ 2008-08-28 - 07:06:28

We've all had those phone calls at an awkward moment. Last night my ex-husband phoned my daughter just when she was about to serve up dinner. Not wanting to be rude she explained and put my grandchildren on the phone. She then heard four year old Louis saying "Grandad you shouldn't ring when we are going to eat and if you ring after we've eaten you can't talk for long because we have cuddles before going to bed".

Well they do say that honesty's the best policy.

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE (Debbie Boone)

So many nights I sit by my window
Waiting for someone to sing me his song
So many dreams I kept deep inside me
Alone in the dark but now
You've come along

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song

Rollin' at sea, adrift on the water
Could it be finally I'm turning for home?
Finally, a chance to say hey,
I love You
Never again to be all alone

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song

You light up my life
You give me hope
To carry on
You light up my days
and fill my nights with song

It can't be wrong
When it feels so right
'Cause You
You light up my life

I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

I've been at it again!

by la_spice @ 2008-08-19 - 12:07:57

I haven't done it since May so Rampage avert your eyes and ears right now.

Yes you've guessed "Ich war gerade beim Teigkneten" - this better be the right translation Rampie or I might find myself in big trouble here! (one can live in hope).

Well I've been doing it on and off throughout the morning. Once again I started off in the kitchen, then moved into the lounge (where it hotted up) then finished off in the kitchen. It didn't turn out the same as last time in fact I'm sure that it's more moist this time.

I tried to take a photo but my hands were shaking and the lens kept misting up but I'll see if I can post some close ups later! ;)

Right - time for a coffee and a rest.

Oh - if you don't understand German  then you'd better take a peek here.

Silver threads amongst the gold!

by la_spice @ 2008-08-18 - 19:04:12

Last week I was looking after my grandchildren for a few days - most of them rainy. We always have a great time and discover different things to pass the time away amuse ourselves.

One afternoon Aimée asked if we could play hairdressers and I agreed to be the customer. Aimée appointed herself "Senior Stylist" (naturally!) and Louis was her "Junior".

I was suitably greeted to the Salon and seated in front of the mirror (laptop - thankfully). Louis brought me a pretend cup of coffee and a "fairy magazine" (I'm worried about that boy!!!)

Aimée set about coiffeuring by gently combing my hair (ouch) and proceeded to add clips, slides, scrunchies and "bam bams" to my hair. The finally look was ...... erm ..... different  but the final glory was when she said "Grandma you've got blonde bits at the front" :(

Thanks for that Aiméé - can I book another appointment to have my roots touched up please! :>>

Losing it!

by la_spice @ 2008-08-17 - 10:53:01

Well this morning I thought I'd finally started on the slippery slope to senility  It was breakfast time and with milk in short supply for cereals and no croissants left I decided that toast and marmalade was the next best option.

And that's when I thought "I've lost it" "where on earth has the bread gone?" I first looked in the obvious places then thought "perhaps I've finally gone do-lally?" That's when the logical me jumped out (a bit like the Green Cross Code Man) and said "think - when did you last have it?"

This system is tried and tested and is one I've tried to pass down to my children and grandchildren. So I quickly remembered. On Friday my grandson had asked if he could have some "soft bread" (as opposed to toast) and had simply put the packet back on a shelf that he could reach more easily (which was at my knee level).

I can't believe I was almost on the verge of looking in the washing machine!!!!

Great Expectations

by la_spice @ 2008-08-16 - 13:22:46

Well I feel just like Miss Heversham. I've been sorting out my dressing up things (Amateur Dramatics before you get excited!) and came across my wedding dress which is now over 40 years old.

I decided to hang it up for a while and let it have a bit of an airing. On doing so I had very mixed thoughts/feelings.

The first was "how on earth did I fit into it?"

Then I thought back to that nineteen year old with all her hopes and expectations of married bliss.

Then I remembered the good times.

Then I remembered the sad times.

Then I sighed a sigh.

Silence is golden ......

by la_spice @ 2008-08-14 - 07:52:52

..... or is it?

My grandchildren are staying with me for a couple of days. Normally I'm woken at 7.30am by my four year old grandson. It's now 8.50am and I haven't heard a peep out of them. This is strange - I must have tired them out yesterday!

I suddenly thought I hope they're alright and haven't been abducted by aliens and have just peeped in to see them still fast asleep. I'm now thinking "I hope they're still breathing" and might have to go and take another peek! Why oh why can't I just enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts?

Such responsibility!

ps - guess what??? Yes they're awake! :))

I need a boyfriend!

by la_spice @ 2008-08-13 - 08:32:25

This is the verdict of my four year old grandson.

We were walking across a car park and out of the blue he said "Grandma you need a boyfriend"!

When I asked why he said "So you can have lots of children"!

I explained that I'd already had his mum and auntie and didn't want anymore children "thank you very much"!

He thought for a moment and then said "But Grandma, you still need a boyfriend"

Once again I said "why?" and he replied "Because you need lots of loving"

Ah!

Living Life by The Rules

by la_spice @ 2008-07-28 - 13:08:26

The other day King Kev did a post about cutting his mother's apron strings (read here) and Menomama has just done an interesting post about mother and child relationships (see here)

These reminded me of a recent conversation between my Daughter (pictured below) and my Granddaughter (pictured scores of times before).

Aimée (aged 6) asked her Mummy "why do grown ups make all the rules". This was accompanied by the usual "it's not fair". I butted in and said that even grown ups have to obey rules. Aimée didn't seem convinced about that.

Anyway my Daughter suggested that Aimée could be a grown up for a day and get up when she wanted and go to bed when she wanted; sort out what she was going to wear and what she was going to eat etc. This seemed to go down well until her Mummy said "of course this means you don't get cuddles and a bedtime story from me".

The subject was duly closed and the status quo was achieved.

It's a hard life.

For Blog's Sake!

by la_spice @ 2008-07-22 - 13:42:46

I ask you ……..

Whilst pottering in my garden this morning (not that sort Melinda and Murphymole!) and thinking about “The Blogship Lollipop” (as one does) my mind went back over twelve months ago. At this time I was accused of “blogging for the sake of blogging”. Obviously, this comment has stuck with me.

For those of you who don’t know the background behind “Lollipop” I’ll briefly explain.

A couple of weeks ago I came across the idea for “The Lollipop” following the tragic scuttling of the “Black Pearl”. Morale seemed at an all time low and I felt that perhaps bloggers needed a fun place to escape the doom and gloom of modern day life. A place to dream, relax and have fun with other like-minded bloggers. I hope that this has been achieved.

So why am I asking “Is the blogging for the sake of blogging?” I really don’t know. Perhaps it’s just a ghost from the past?

Ah well “Carry on Blogging”!

Here's one for Usky and the boys!
