Wondering...............

by Arnica @ 2008-03-25 - 12:24:46

....... still thinkng

I wonder why the grass is green
And why the wind is never seen?
Who taught the birds to built a nest
And told the trees to take a rest?
Or, when the moon is not quite round
Where can the missing bit be found?
Who lights the stars, when they blow out
And makes the lightning flash about?
Who paints the rainbow in the sky
And hangs the fluffy clouds so high?
Why is it now, do you suppose
That dad won't tell me if he knows?

By Jeannie Kirby

This was a poem I learned at junior school!

I am tempted to say that's the best poem ever! What a choice !

The image accompanying it is totally expressive of the questions.

Incidently if one thinks back 2 or 3000 years pre experimental science then all the points made are in reality main stream questions and one can understand where the biblical story comes from.

Not even 300 years ago scientists were calculating how long the sun would shine if it were made of burning coal !

So this poem and the image need to be published for a much wider readership as it explains indirectly how religious fundamentalism came about . David.

No the match of the picture and the text was so good I thought you'd penned the words perhaps after hearing children's deep searching questions on all the topics touched in the poem.

May I suggest that you frame the poem, put it on the wall, then answer the questions ! Aimee will have a complete education when you have finished [ if ever ]. David.

I was simply touching on some of my childhood memories and the photo just fell into place.

Well those Grand Children of yours could be asked about rainbows, Stars, the Sun and Moon and the wind and the answers are a vivid way to educate inquiring minds. Its all there in that lovely poem. David.
