I confess ....

by la_spice @ 2008-04-29 - 15:50:42

....Today I've done something I didn't think that I would ever do!

I've been cheating. 88|

For years and years and years I have resisted temptation but today I finally gave in.

Well there were mitigating circumstances  it was either do without :**: or do something about it.:-/ Also I did have to try out something that my neighbour had recently recommended.

So there you are I confess. I admit it. I used bread mix.

DSCF2352

Oh and I made some cinnamon biscuits by adapting a recipe and I half-covered them in some dark chocolate I found in the back of my store cupboard.

I'm turning into a right domestic goddess and all because I didn't want to do my weekly food shop! :))

This afternoon I went out to buy some bits and pieces I needed for my garden and I came back with these:

Well I did need them and they were a bargain €27.85 (less than £22) for the lot! (cropped trousers, tee-shirt, vest top and sandals)

The Twilight Zone.

Well talk about surreal!

Last night, well early this morning actually, I found myself in a parallel universe. It was a strange world frequented by a small number of virtual strangers who simply passed each other by. To my knowledge these individuals neither spoke nor even acknowledged each other's presence, that is apart from two.

These two were drawn together by a strange twist of fate and they began to exchange views on the wonderful world of modern innovations. They partook of refreshing beverages and discussed plastic carrier bags. Yes that's right - plastic carrier bags!

Somewhere in time and space between waking and sleeping the so called intelligent species of the Rubychoo and La_spice exchanged ideas and tips about the invention of the "Plastic Bag Holder" The full transcript of that intellectual discussion can be seen (in the comments section) here. Thank you MissyMouse for providing the common ground for this meeting of great minds!

The outcome of this virtual summit (reached after coffee and ginger biscuits) was that the preferred and probably cheapest method of storing plastic carrier bags (other than simply ramming them inside each other or in a drawer) was the upright tissue box one described below. To reduce the cost we agreed that the sticky back plastic was going over the top.

Posh folk might disagree but they probably don't used plastic bags anyway.

So here, as promised, is how to make your plastic carrier bag holder brought to you courtesy of BCUK.

An empty Kleenex box becomes a decorative Plastic Bag Holder with this easy recycling craft.

What you'll need:
• Empty upright Kleenex box
• Con-Tact paper, any colour or pattern
• Scissors
• Several plastic bags that you want to store

How to make it:
1. Trim the plastic off the top of the Kleenex box.
2. Cover the Kleenex box with Con-Tact paper.
3. Put your plastic bags inside for storage.

Tips:
Reusing your plastic grocery bags is a great way to recycle. Make additional boxes, fill with sacks, and place around your house near your trash cans.

Blogging has been hard work just recently and to borrow the words of the song by Catatonia:-

"If all you've got to do today is find peace of mind
Come round you can take a piece of mine
And if all youve got to do today is hesitate,
Come here, you can leave it late with me.
You could be taking it easy on yourself
You should be making it easy on yourself
Cause you and I know,
Its all over the front page, you give me road rage"

Simply change the last two words to "Blog rage"

I'll keep popping back to see if things are better.

I've just logged a problem with BCUK.

Sometime after 14.00 today I stopped receiving email notification of comments to my postings.

I haven't made any changes to my blog settings.

So if you're wondering why I haven't got back to you this is why.

The Esspee Shuffle!

by la_spice @ 2008-04-19 - 09:43:22

No it's not the latest thing from "Come Dancing" nor is it one of Paul Daniel's fancy card tricks.

So what is it?

Well thanks to BCUK new "improved service" is the only way I can mavoeuvre around Blogland. The Esspee Shuffle is an amazing technique as demonstrated by my fellow photoblogger Esspee.

How do you do it?

If your screen freezes or goes blank while you're trying to read or comment on someone's blog or simply want to change pages this is what to do:

A: Minimise screen
B: Maximise screen
C: Click on refresh button

Knees bend, arms stretch, ra ra ra!

Oh this doesn't work in preview where you have to close and open it again!

Have a peaceful day

For JENRAY (and everyone!)

by la_spice @ 2008-04-17 - 17:42:33

Jenray and I have been talking about the weather (again!) and I said that it at least gives us something to talk about. Jenray replied

Cor, I can think of loads of things...

This got me thinking (dangerous I know!) so here goes:

It's time for a coffee break I've put the kettle on, I've got an ample supply of pain au raisin and coffee and walnut cake. So sit down and tell me what would YOU like to talk about?

Sorry but politics, religion, football and the weather are banned!

Well it is my blog after all!

An invitation for birthday boy Davij

by la_spice @ 2008-04-14 - 07:47:23

In honour of your birthday you are invited to have dinner with me

Separate Tables

At seven pm I dressed with care
Put on my perfume, brushed my hair
I lit the candles dead on eight
He was there waiting, he wasn’t late
We discussed what we would like to eat
The choice of wine the cut of meat
The starter, pudding and the cheese
We planned it all with such great ease
We said it was good to share a meal
We laughed and talked it was surreal
We discussed all sorts of things together
The world, its people and of course the weather!
Then midnight came we made our goodbyes
Two virtual diners under the starry skies
We both agreed to meet again
Next week come sun or snow or rain
Same tables, same time, same place
We’d meet for dinner in cyberspace

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BIG "O"

I need a Brazilian!

by la_spice @ 2008-04-13 - 09:13:34

Yesterday I realised that it's starting to get quite out of hand and I have great difficulty keeping things neat and tidy on my own. I concluded that perhaps I needed a Brazilian, or any other nationality would do, to help me keep my patch nicely trimmed. Not only is it spreading everywhere but it's full of weeds.

I am, of course referring to my garden - oh you thought I meant 88| you must be joking! 8| No way José! - ah a Spaniard perhaps? :))

Text Appeal

by la_spice @ 2008-04-11 - 17:02:11

Well what a lovely surprise. I charged up my mobile phone batteries overnight and when I came to look at my phone there was an unread message. I don't get many text messages these days and was surpised to see that it had been sent three days ago!

At first I thought it must be "Orange" telling me that I was in credit or trying to interest me in something or other. Then I noticed that it was a UK mobile phone number but I didn't recognise it. Well there was only one way to find out - read the message!

To my surprise and delight were those three lovely words.

Words that I haven't heard since January.

Words that made me go weak at the knees.

Yes you've guessed "I've got Shreddies"!

For any new friends or those of you who are slightly puzzled, my earlier posting might through some light on the matter:

http://myplace2.blog.co.uk/2008/01/31/creme_eggs_and_disappointment~3659324

Anyway I digress. Trembling with excitement I got in my car and drove over to my friends house. To be greeted by

"I bet I know what you've come for"!

Not wanting to look too eager, I shrugged my shoulders.

"Would you like a coffee?"

I smiled and nodded.

So we had coffee and a chat and an hour later I got up to go. On my way out I was handed a carrier bag "Here you are - two 750g boxes of BiteSize Shredded Wheat"!!!!!!!

BiteSize Shredded Wheat! BiteSize Shredded Wheat!

Not the words I wanted to hear! I think the disappointment showed on my face! "Oh - they're not what you wanted then? - never mind they'll keep you regular". Thanks pal!

Come Dine With Me!

by la_spice @ 2008-04-10 - 21:05:29

I've just smiled my way through this evening's Celebrity "Come Dine With Me" TV programme. Perhaps it was the characters involved or perhaps the couple of glasses of wine I indulged in? - who knows!

This gave me an idea. If you had to prepare a three-course meal for yourself and three celebrities

a) Which three celebrities would you invite?
b) What three courses would you prepare?

Go on have a think, then post your choice of guests and menu on your own blog remembering to mention that it's "La_spice's Celebrity Dinner Party Challenge"

dinnerHave fun!

Don't forget to let me know when you've posted it!

I Have Designs!

by la_spice @ 2008-04-10 - 12:29:05

I am planning on doing a series of booklets each containing five different poems. The fly covers include a space to personalise these thereby making them suitable gifts for that special someone. The booklets are A5 size (15x21cms) and will come with an envelope.

Here are my first six designs:

a gift of words

love letters

 loving thoughts

special moments

teddy polar bear

Though the eyes of a child

I have finalised the contents for three of them:

"A Gift of Words" - A Hug, Birdsong, Precious Memories, Simply Said and Free Spirit. (This was made with my Mum in mind)

"Loving Thoughts" - Unconditionally Yours, Take My Hand, A Day to Remember, At The End of The Day and On Wings of Love.

"The Wonderful Adventures of Teddy Polar Bear" - Teddy Polar Bear Goes to the Beach", Teddy Polar Bear Goes to School, Teddy Polar Bear Goes Missing, Teddy Polar Bear Goes on Holiday and Teddy Polar Bear Has a Friend.

I am busy selecting ten more to go in the remaining two and planning one or two more including "A Bit of Fun". I am also considering providing bespoke/customised editions using clients' personal selection of poems from my portfolio.

All my poems can be seen at mypoetry.blog.co.uk

Thanks to rithompson and to cj592 and possibly others who like cj forgot rule number five! (5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by posting a comment on their blog).

I'm not going to cut and paste the rules (see fact number 7) OK here you are:

1. I love reading these memes.

2. I hate writing these memes.

3. It's cold and rainy outside.

4. It's warm and snug inside.

5. Today I'm poorly (but I'll be ok!)

6. I'm now going back to bed.

7. I'm not going to tag anyone because *most of you have been tagged.

* If you haven't been tagged and want to write seven random facts about yourself and then tag seven other people then be my guest - oh and don't forget to let them know that you've tagged them! Full rules and instructions can be cut and pasted from rithompsom who gets an extra mention and link for getting it right!.

Bye for now!

"As one door closes.....

by la_spice @ 2008-04-08 - 08:09:19

....another one opens" is a well known expression.

Just the other day I came across this in French:

J'ai fait un long voyage.
C'etait la fin d'un autre reve,
Et le commencement d'un autre espoir.

Roughly translated it says:

I went on a long journey.
It was the end of another dream,
And the beginning of another hope.
