School Dinners.

by Arnica @ 2008-04-02 - 13:03:55

There's a lot of talk about healthy eating, school dinners etc. so I thought you might be interested in hearing about French school dinners.

Parents pay a nominal sum and the authorities provide the balance. All meals are prepared locally and not mass produced.

Every Monday a list of the week's menu is taped on the door so that parents can see what their children are having.

This is what my grandchildren were served with yesterday:

Bread

Cucumber and Tomato Salad

Chicken Casserole and Carrots

Cheese

Apple Cake

Water

The only choices they have to make are "take it" or "leave it"! They seem to thrive well enough!

Sisterly Love!

They do each rather well!

Sounds very simple and very healthy...not sure why our kids don't seem to want to eat healthy food...hmmm...big hugs..

Far too much choice, far too many fast food places and convenience foods.

It's certainly made me want to go back to school. Apple cake - yum!

French children generally don't sit down to an evening meal after school - instead they have a small snack (a sandwich or something on toast)

Gosh, your grandbabies are gorgeous and so healthy!

such sweet children.
The menu sounds pretty good though. I think its true about their being too much choice - as a kid I ate what was left out for me or didnt eat. Mcd's & cocacola were a rare treat. Now seems like many familys think of Mcd's as a regular Saturday lunch! Eugh. I'd rather go without than get a mCd's now!

My grandson (4) even asks for water, rather than coke, to drink.
