The Esspee Shuffle!

No it's not the latest thing from "Come Dancing" nor is it one of Paul Daniel's fancy card tricks.

So what is it?

Well thanks to BCUK new "improved service" is the only way I can mavoeuvre around Blogland. The Esspee Shuffle is an amazing technique as demonstrated by my fellow photoblogger Esspee.

How do you do it?

If your screen freezes or goes blank while you're trying to read or comment on someone's blog or simply want to change pages this is what to do:

A: Minimise screen
B: Maximise screen
C: Click on refresh button

Knees bend, arms stretch, ra ra ra!

Oh this doesn't work in preview where you have to close and open it again!

I sympathise... I had awful problems yesterday and this morning it's been awful too - I even posted in the Help blog in case the BCUK team could tell me why it's happening. I found I had to click on a post, let it freeze, click Stop and then refresh.
Really annoying - I want to blog!

I had problems posting comments as well the other day, kept getting an error message about not posting more frequently than every 10 seconds!
Refreshing the page did indeed do the trick most of the time.

I was getting that too!

Didn't know about the refresh, only just found it, doesn't seem to be on my toolbar these days so haven't bothered with it.

Thanks for the post, has prompted me to find 'refresh' - F5, and I will try it. I usually just give up and go back to trying to catch up with emails, and if it's really bad I give up altogether, but it's mostly ok.

I like this with the arrows so you can read other posts by the author without going to profile, it makes keeping up with friends' posts a whole lot easier, I find anyway.

Well it sounds like it's being especially slow for you - when you say that the screen freezes, do you mean that the page stops trying to load? If that happens, do you receive any error messages?

Does the page eventually load? Have you done what we asked in the FAQ?

Have you tried the tracert?

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this mystery...

Hi - as you will see from the other comments (above) this is a very common problem at the moment.

I haven't had any error messages and the page does respond after using the refresh button.

I wanted to do a test by using another PC and connection which I now have done. I haven't tried the tracert. I'll have a try.

Just tried the first bit

"Firstly, when the BCUK page loads, click on 'View' then 'View Source' on your browser. In the new window that opens, scroll right to the very bottom and copy and paste the third last line into a mail to us (support@blog.co.uk). It should look something like this:" ????????? - no example shown and couldn't identify which line was "third last"

I seem to be having the same problem from time to time.... no error messages, but the screen freezes, and then I can't minimise or maximise it... If I control/alt/delete and go to my task list, it always says that the programme is not responding :( means I haven't been able to post or comment for AAAGES (especially as I have to use my 'puter at work to check....)
