More boo hoo rather than boho

by la_spice @ 2008-05-31 - 09:57:46

That's my summer wardrobe according to Vogue magazine (which my recent visitor left behind).

It seems that I need to attire myself either in a "purple, ochre and terracotta kaftan" or a "silk shirtdress and glossy patent tote" neither of which appeals to me.

All isn't lost though because last year's natural linens can be revamped into "African Queens' Safari Chic" thanks to the purchase of a cheap new short sleeved safari shirt.

If all else fails the nautical look is timeless so my stripey top and white cropped trousers will be freshly laundered again. Perhaps I should invest in a jaunty sailor cap? On second thoughts

As for candy pinks (which "sunkissed skin yearns for") I think not!

What about "tribal patterns"or "sumptuous florals"? Perhaps not!

So African Queen it is!

Now where did I put that "£350 fine cashmere scarf worn as a headscarf"?

Midsummer Murder

by la_spice @ 2008-05-30 - 08:37:37

I've just found body parts on the terrace :-/ well that's a slight exaggeration it was only one body part 88| oh and a trail of blood 8| well more of a smear really

I daren't look too closely but it could well be an internal organ. :. Either way it will have to be removed once my breakfast has settled.:**:

Do you think that John Nettles or that lovely Inspector Lindley are doing anything later? ;)

Perhaps my daughter's cat is trying to tell me that she needs feeding?

Never a dull moment here!

Hair today .....

by la_spice @ 2008-05-29 - 11:01:44

... none tomorrow!

I'm looking after my grandchildren for a few days and last night after bathtime Aimee (who has very straight hair) wanted it braided and left in overnight.

This morning it looked like this :)

She was very pleased with the effect

I don't think I'll be braiding it again tonight!

Is it a male thing?

by la_spice @ 2008-05-27 - 13:30:47

My four year old grandson has just started taking his superman comic to the loo when he goes for a 'sit down' visit. I just wondered if this was a male thing or do any females read on the loo?

I don't and I was brought up with four brothers and can never recall them or my dad using the smallest room as a reading room. Mind you we used to have little squares of newspapers strung together and hung behind the door of the outside toilet. Maybe they read those?

Mother's Pride

by la_spice @ 2008-05-26 - 05:49:28

Yesterday was Mothers' Day in France and I was fortunate that both my daughters were in the country at the same time. This morning my eldest daughter returns to England after a little break.

Daughters

Where have both my babies gone?
Those cupid lips of deepest pink
Which smile and brightest eyes
That seldom blink
Those chubby hands with dimples ten
And arms outstretched to mum again

Where have both my little girls gone
With frills and ribbons in their hair
With stockings white
Without a care
Those laughing children as they play
Where have they gone – and where today?

I look around and now I find
Two loving sisters fully grown
They share my joys, my hopes, my fears
They turn my house into a home

I did not see the years fly by
And looking back I can but try
To understand when babies turned
To little girls, then women learned
But this I know I glow with pride
To see them standing side by side
And feel the love that we all share
And know that they are always there

Blogavision Song Contest

by la_spice @ 2008-05-25 - 17:51:28

Faffajane's recent posting "Tales of Eurovision" has prompted me to launch a search for BCUK's own Blogavision Song.

My first thoughts were:-

"Boom Bloga Bang"

or

"Muppet on a Blog"

Perhaps you'd like to suggest some more song titles?

Please add your suggestions in a comment box!

Ugly Bug

I found loads of these in my garden yesterday and hadn't a clue what they were. It seems that they are Musk Beetles "Aromia Moschata". Thanks to Rob (notbob) for identifying it. Here's more information:

The xylophagous larvae (literally "mangeuses of wood") develop on the willows, more rarely in the poplars and the alders. Several years are passed until the nymphose. The adults suck the sap of the willows, maples and birches. The name of the species comes from secretion, with the back of the lower part of the thorax, of substances of bases are drawn from the feeder plant and undergo a chemical conversion in glands. Because of systematic demolition of the old willows, the species with tendency to rarefy.

That explains my dead willow tree!!!

Featured Blogs and Kiki.

by la_spice @ 2008-05-11 - 07:44:38

Two mysteries in one!

The other week I put out a plea for any news on Kiki. No-one has seen or heard from her for some time now. The mystery of mysteries is how (when she last posted 72 days ago) does her blog regularly appear in 'featured blogs'.

Just wondering!

by la_spice @ 2008-05-02 - 06:00:00

I've just thought - "now that is worrying" I hear you cry!

Where was I?

I've just realised that some of the expressions my Mother used to use are now archaic and that many bloggers will probably have to "google" them to find out what I'm talking about.

Here's mine:

"You're beginning to sound like a cracked record"

OR

"Anyone would think you'd been injected with a gramophone needle"

Can you think of an example of your own?
