In a Rage!

by la_spice @ 2008-06-22 - 10:53:28

The longer I live in France I see more similarities in the language. Last night there was a terrible storm and when I stopped at the boulangerie on my way home this morning there was talk about "l'orage". All I have to do is work on my pronunciation and I've got this language sussed!

Anyway back to the storm. When I arrived back home I found one of my three silver birch trees had been decapitated and is now some four metres shorter than it was when I left home on Friday. "Quelle dommage" what a shame! :(

It's always sad when a tree gets damaged... one of my small trees was uprooted in Thursday night's wind.

I was surprised to see it snapped off - they're quite flexible trees that blow nicely in the breeze. I guess it saves me having to have the top lopped at some later stage.

You may find it grows a tad strangely now though...

Better than losing it though - I've already 'lost' a willow tree this year :(

Lost as in dug up and taken away?

Almost - cut off at ground level and taken away! :(

That's terrible! Who would do such a thing?

I would imagine so - when I was identifying that horrid monster (of which there were loads!) I discovered that they lay their eggs under the bark of willow trees and the grubs feast on the sap.

I haven't seen anymore since but they were busy breeding at the time!

Oh dear.... sounds like you may a visit from.....

And the tree feller!

(And yes I do know the joke about the two Irishmen!)

I wasn't going to say a word...

That would have been a first!! :))

That must have been a very strong wind! Usually the whole tree blows down, not just the top...you're right...what a shame, but it will grow back again which is one blessing...wouldn't if completely uprooted...great big hugs...XXX

I didn't hear the wind as I was sleeping at my daughter's house which has very thick walls. I was woken at 2.30am by the thunder and lightening though.

Hmmm...extremely windy apparently around some parts of the UK but no storms here yet and where we are there's wind, but nothing like a gale...great big hugs...XX

Ah well it was a lovely sunny day yesterday and I spent it with my daughter and family in and around the pool.

Today isn't too bad so I must go out and enjoy it whilst I can.

Bye for now

Have a lovely day...great big hugs..XXX

That's a dang shame. Takes so long for the tree to grow and then *poof* one strong wind it is snapped off.

hugs and kisses
